It is a compelling argument, and a persuasive wake-up call to all Americans. The name of the book is; “Innovation Nation – How America Is Losing Its Innovation Edge, Why It Matters, and What We Can Do to Get Back” by John Kao, Free Press Publishers, 2007, (320 pp); ISBN: 978-141653-268-two.

Innovating to Win in Business – A Book Review

There are two types of corporations; those which are growing, and those which are dying. It appears there is no other option. Either they are growing and experiencing increased shareholder’s value and increased quarterly profits, and positioning themselves for future sales, or they are losing market share to their competitors and their business models are stagnant and not evolving things fast enough with the changes in the free market place and the every changing consumer buying behavior.

“What We Want is More Innovation in America” He Said

In the United States we pride ourselves in innovation, we think of ourselves and the entrepreneurs, inventors, and innovators of the world. Americans are always dreaming up new ideas and concepts, it’s practically an American Tradition. In fact, we cannot understand why other nation’s populations cannot or will not innovate, and perhaps, some of us feel superior due to this observation. Yet, before we get too ego-centric over the whole thing or break our arms patting ourselves on the back, we need to step back and consider how often we crush innovation.

How Can We Increase Innovation and Bring it to Fruition Faster?

Communication is the key to innovation, and much can be said for collaboration on new ideas, concepts, and the brain storming process. So, what if we could speed this process up, rather than emails, group meetings, and such, what if we could thought-swap instead? In the future, surely this will be possible right, I mean to say we’ve come a long way from the radio and telephone to cell phones, internet, Twitter, and today’s SmartPhones.

There Are Imitators and Innovators – Which Are You?

One thing is for sure humans are very similar to other primates and their primal behavior is more than obvious from what I can see in observation. Now realize I am no Jane Goodall, but it seems amazing to me the amount of imitating that humans do, and it’s as if you cannot get around it.

You Cannot Create Powerful Solutions Without Being a Passionate Innovator

Getting together in a group and brainstorming trying to find solutions to the most pressing problems of our time is quite interesting and enlightening. After sitting in groups like this over the last five years, it is interesting how intense the conversations get, and all the different personalities and attitudes of the individual participants. Something that I have found, and this is quite interesting; the best solutions, the most powerful ideas, and concepts come from the most passionate innovators of the group.

Have a New Invention and Making a Prototype – Be Discreet

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in all sorts of interesting innovations. Some of the projects were my ideas and concepts. On others, I only worked as a component of the project, or advised in some consulting fashion. Not long ago, I was discussing a great invention idea with an acquaintance as he was considering launching a new product.
